Ductcraft started as a project management app for one HVAC company and became a multi-tenant platform. I gathered requirements from the people who would use it, turned them into a prioritized backlog, and built it with AI coding agents working from written feature plans. Every tenant’s data is scoped at the record level, and permissions are checked in one place so business rules stay consistent across 30+ services.
What I built
- Gathered requirements from HVAC stakeholders to build a prioritized backlog for the MVP and production releases, covering customers, projects, service tickets, scheduling, and technician workflows.
- Designed a layered Next.js App Router architecture with thin API routes, Zod validation, centralized permission checks, and a service layer over Prisma ORM and PostgreSQL, keeping business logic consistent and testable across 30+ services.
- Turned a single-company app into a multi-tenant SaaS platform with tenant scoping on every record, tenant provisioning, per-tenant branding and settings, and a superadmin operator console.
- Implemented role-based access control (Admin, Manager, Technician) with record-level scoping, rate-limited login and password reset, email verification, Cloudflare Turnstile CAPTCHA, and a read-only demo tenant.
- Modeled 27 relational entities across 40+ Prisma migrations, including soft delete with cascading restore, comment edit history, and hard-delete guards that clean up orphaned files in Vercel Blob.
- Built a drag-and-drop scheduling calendar, global search, server-generated PDF exports, dashboard charts with click-through filtering, mentions, and mobile-first technician views.
- Localized the app into English and Punjabi (Gurmukhi) with next-intl, with automated tests that keep the translation catalogs in sync.
- Wrote 75+ Vitest suites plus Playwright end-to-end tests, backed by GitHub Actions CI and PR-based Vercel preview deployments for smoke testing.
- Used AI coding tools (Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Kilo Code) with specialized agents and written feature plans to ship 60+ documented features in about 5 months.
